Players are separated into two teams: Security and Insurgents. Improvements from Insurgency include better visuals, fire support, addition of a player progression system, character customization, cosmetic unlocks, as well as larger maps and drivable technicals. Instead, on death, players must spectate and wait for their team to complete an objective in order to respawn. Like its predecessors, most game modes in Sandstorm do not feature instant respawns. Weapons are accurate and extremely deadly, putting an emphasis on teamwork.
